Behind the Scenes: July ‘21
Blazing sunshine has sent temperatures soaring and brought visitors flocking to enjoy Oban at its best – July has been a spectacular month. As Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease, life at Atlantis Leisure has been about finding our rhythm once again. Read on to find out what’s been happening:
Facilities
We were delighted that restrictions allowed us to reopen the Soft Play facility earlier in the month. Both sections are now available to limited numbers with sessions allocated via advance booking. This was the last of our facilities to reopen and it’s amazing how much the atmosphere has changed in the Centre with the return of whooping and hollering from our young folks having fun!
Elsewhere in the Centre, contact sports have also returned. This means that team sports and close contact sports such as Squash are back, further adding to that ‘Atlantis buzz’ we’ve missed so much.
Café Atlantis
Beth and the gang are back! – Café Atlantis reopened earlier in the month much to the rumble of all our stomachs! Beth has brought a fresh approach to the menu, with new options, new coffee and even a brand new floor!
Atlantis Activity Programme
Despite the disappointment of having to cancel the majority of our Summer Programme, Hebridean Pursuits and Atlantis have been making waves amongst some of our younger children with weekly Coasteering Adventures. Every Monday, groups of 8 children head out from Ganavan Sands to explore the rocky coastline. With a combination of climbing, bouldering and jumping into the water (everyone’s favourite) we have worked together to ensure that there was still plenty of fun to be had this summer. And as a special bonus? – so far, the sun has been shining every week!
Atlantis have also been running a Kids Club on Thursdays at the Centre. With a session in the morning followed by one in the afternoon, the Club has proved hugely popular.
Poolside
1:1 private swimming lessons have continued to run during the school Summer holidays, with over 100 young people attending lessons throughout the past month. We’re looking forward to group lessons restarting after the holidays, once the Autumn term gets underway.
Staff
We were chuffed to bits for Craig MacCorquodale as he continued his personal upskilling. Craig attended a pool plant operator’s course this month, completing his qualification in this area of the business.
Claire Keen and Cameron Johnson both got underway with their Level 3 GP Referral training this month. This is a huge help towards the provision of Atlantis’ StayActive service which continues to grow in popularity each month.
We’re also delighted to welcome Jenny Low to the Community Fitness Programme team. Jenny’s running a Tabata style class – fast-paced fun for all abilities and fitness levels.

Throughout the Centre more widely, the continued easing of government restrictions has allowed us to reduce social distancing to 1 metre. Our programme of regular electro-static disinfection treatment throughout the whole centre remains in place to ensure our community’s continued safety. Roll on next month!
